Youth and Community Partnerships - About Us
Youth and Community Partnerships (previously known as the NIECAP and CIECAP Group in Community & Regional Partnerships) was established in 1988 at RMIT University and is now one of a number groups in the Students Portfolio.
Activities are concentrated in two broad areas:
- Transition of young people from secondary school into post compulsory education, training or employment
- Enhancement of science and technology education in primary and secondary schools across all sectors.
We seek to build partnerships among schools, industry, this university, the training sector, governments and the local community. Through the facilitation of partnerships, an action research model has developed whereby projects provide an opportunity for reflection and ‘learning by doing’ that are responsive to the needs of local communities.

Projects within the university and in the community are focussed on adding value to school education and supporting community initiatives around pathways for young people. Equity is an underpinning value of RMIT’s community engagement work with schools.
