Assoc. Prof. Dr Ralph Horne (Project Manager):
Ralph Horne is Director of the Centre for Design, RMIT University and has extensive experience of sustainable development assessment and management tools, using Environmental Impact Assessment and Life Cycle Assessment techniques. He will be responsible for overall project management. He will also be responsible for the Victorian case studies liaison with partner organizations.
Dr Jon Kellett:
Jon is Senior Lecturer in Urban & Regional Planning at the University of South Australia, and has a particular interest in the transformation of cities and regions to sustainable energy systems. He has carried out a number of funded research initiatives in this area. He will be responsible for managing the South Australian case studies and liaise with Playford City Council. He will also take overall responsibility for guiding research on the baseline, energy efficiency and renewable energy resource assessment work in all four case study areas.
Professor John Fien:
John is Innovation Professor of Sustainability at RMIT University where he coordinates research on facilitating sustainable development initiatives across the Business, Social Science, Design and Urban Planning areas. He will support Horne in managing the Victorian case studies. He will guide the social science dimensions of the study, especially the developments of methods for interviews, community fora, discourse analysis, communication, capacity building and dissemination.
Professor Steve Hamnett:
Steve is Head of Urban & Regional Planning atUniversity of South Australia. He will be a principal adviser on the local government, transport policy and urban planning aspects of the project. He will be directly responsible for liaison with Playford City Council. Steve is a Commissioner of the Environment, Resources and Development Court of South Australia.
Dr Susie Moloney
Susie Moloney has recently joined the Centre for Design as a Research Fellow. Susie has an urban planning and environmental sustainability background a PhD in Urban Planning (Melbourne Uni). Her doctoral thesis focussed on the changing role of urban planning and environmental policy in response to the imperative for cities to become globally competitive. Prior to joining the Centre for Design Susie worked for the Commissioner for Environmental Sustainability on the State of Environment Report for Victoria focusing particularly on methods for reporting on the consumption of energy, water and materials and the key drivers of environmental change.
Annette Kroen
Annette is a Research Fellow at the Centre for Design. She has recently submitted her PhD thesis at RMIT University on the topic of metropolitan governance and transit-oriented development. The research for her thesis involved a comparative analysis of metropolitan governance structures inthe city regions of Melbourne (Australia), Denver (USA) and Bonn (Germany). Further research interests lie in regional and metropolitan planning, questions of governance and strategic planning, and citizen participation. Annette has a strategic and urban planning background with a Diplom-Ingenieur degree in Spatial Planning from the University of Dortmund in Germany.

Anna Strempel
Anna works as a Research Officer at the Centre for Design, in both the Climate Change & the Social Context, and the Sustainable Built Environments teams. She works on a range of projects including Carbon Neutral Communities and has also tutored undergraduate students in the Urban Planning and Energy and Energy Policy and Management courses. Prior to joining the Centre for Design Anna worked at the Moreland Energy Foundation as the Residential Program Coordinator.
Trivess Moore
Trivess has an Honours degree in Environmental Science and has been working at the Centre for Design for nearly two years assisting on research for a range of projects and literature reviews. He has joined the Carbon Neutral Communities project to develop skills and methods associated with the renewable resource assessment process developed in the project. He has recently started a PhD on the topic of "Affordable zero emission new housing in Australia: Developing pathways for policy' which aims to analyse potential pathways for Australia to achieve zero emission new housing in a timely, efficient and effective manner in order to reduce greenhouse gas emissions from the housing sector and thus the impacts of climate change.
