Fashion Design is a creative profession that responds to and addresses constant change through research and development of new ideas. A fashion designer must be acutely aware of advancements in materials, social and environmental change, market sentiments, production environments and processes, marketing, promotion and distribution strategies. In responding to these factors fashion designers engage a broad range of research and design methods, visual communication, prototyping and preproduction techniques.
Fashion at RMIT is a discipline concerned with the equilibrium between the experimental and the commercially situated through the development of innovative design practice. After four years of study this diverse cohort of students has been engaging with various aspects of industry and community, their work has been on public exhibition and they have competed in and won design competitions. At RMIT we approach the practice of design seriously with a commitment to the idea that innovation and design are the future of the Australian Textile, Clothing and Footwear industries. RMIT is proud of the success of its many alumni who are contributing to this future as we are proud of the students who are showcased this evening. Congratulations to the ‘Fourth Years of 2009’.
