The School’s strategic plan is developed within the framework of University plans.

The School of Fashion and Textiles services four distinct market segments:

  • Industry and workplace Training
  • Australian Students
  • International students
  • Research and Commercial Services

The School offers vocational education and training through its TAFE programs, and higher education programs at undergraduate and postgraduate levels. We provide flexible learning options to apprentices and trainees, TAFE students, undergraduate and postgraduate students, who can take advantage of programs on campus, online, in industry, or internationally in conjunction with overseas partners.

Pathways

The School of Fashion and Textiles ensures students can access many pathway and articulation options.

Pathways allow students to expand their learning by pursuing further studies after they have completed a course or program. The School designs its programs so that options for further study are opened up.

Articulation means that a student who completes one program may receive credit for part of another program. Because the School designs its programs to link together, we can maximise the credit available to students. Because of this approach, all the School’s Diploma programs articulate into undergraduate programs within the School. We work closely with other schools at RMIT to maximise articulation options for our students. For example, our students can articulate into the Bachelor of Design (Fashion) offered by RMIT’s School of Architecture and Design.

Pathways and articulation come together in creative ways that offer great benefits to our students. A powerful example is that students who complete the Associate Degree in Fashion Design and Technology program can then go on to complete the Bachelor of Applied Science (Fashion Technology) in one year.
