School of fashion and textiles

RMIT School of Fashion and Textiles is a major provider of education and training for the Textiles Clothing and Footwear industry, both in Australia and internationally.

The School’s programs incorporate all stages of the supply chain, including fibre production, textile technology, textile and fashion design, garment production, merchandising, dry cleaning, marketing and retailing.

The School is one of Australia’s leading fashion and textile education providers. It offers vocational programs for apprentices and trainees, along with a wide range of TAFE Certificate and Diploma programs. Undergraduate and postgraduate degree programs are available, including at PhD level.

The Textile and Design Specialist Centre through the School of Fashion and Textiles at RMIT University is focused upon the development of innovative training and education products that meet industry needs and make greater use of the University’s Textile and Fashion resources to develop value add for industry.

Fashion and Textiles Research Programs

Teaching staff and postgraduate students undertake research in Textiles, Fashion and Merchandising. The School harnesses research resources across the spectrum of the Textiles and Fashion industries. Research is undertaken in collaboration with industry partners and funding bodies.

The Australian Radiation Protection and Nuclear Safety Agency (ARPANSA), as part of the Health and Ageing Portfolio, is a Federal Government agency charged with responsibility for protecting the health and safety of people, and the environment, from the harmful effects of ionising and non ionising radiation.

ARPANSA is a NATA accredited test facility for UPF rating of fabrics and garments to AS/NZS 4399.

The Australian Competition and Consumer Commission is an independent statutory authority. It was formed in 1995 to administer the Trade Practices Act 1974 and other acts.

The Trade Practices Act’s purpose is to enhance the welfare of Australians through the promotion of competition and fair trading and provision for consumer protection.

In broad terms the Act covers unfair market practices, industry codes, mergers and acquisitions of companies, product safety, product labelling, price monitoring, and the regulation of industries such as telecommunications, gas, electricity and airports.
