Career Path

“I am the only employee with an international student background working in the Merchant Contact Centre at the ANZ Bank, where one of my major roles is to assist Chinese merchants. Thanks, RMIT!”

The RMIT Difference

Lu Xiao chose to study the Diploma of Interpreting having heard of the fine reputation that the Translating and Interpreting programs at RMIT have in Australia and the Asia Pacific region.

“The teachers and course co-ordinator in particular were excellent, and I found the study atmosphere very helpful. The course content was extremely good. We examined the technical aspects of translating and interpreting, to develop our skills in these areas. As an international student who planned to work in Australia I was especially interested in the Contextual Studies course.”

Lu Xiao notes that their experiences in the field of community interpreting helped students to gain an understanding of legal, social welfare and medical/hospital areas in Australia, and of the rights of citizens to interpreting services.

The Future

Lu Xiao is very happy in his current job, and he has great plans for his future in Australia. One ambition is to study the Advanced Diploma of Translating and Interpreting at RMIT within the next two years.
