Activities

The Centre proposes the following projects and activities for 2006:

  • Organization of a public lecture on benefits and risks by Prof. Harry Fong in Melbourne. Prof. Fong is Associate Director of the WHO Collaborating Centre for Traditional Medicine, School of Pharmacy, University of Illinois at Chicago, USA and an Adjunct Professor to the WHO Collaborating Centre for Traditional Medicine at RMIT University (Reference to ToR: 6);

  • Continuing implementation of existing projects:
    • Revision on WHO Guidelines on Basic Training in Chinese herbal medicine and pharmacy in Chinese medicine to address inputs from member states (Reference to ToRs: 1 and 2)

    • Provision of acupuncture services to patients attending the Emergency Department of a major Melbourne hospital (Reference to ToRs: 1, 2, 3, and 5)

    • Collaboration between RMIT Chinese Medicine and Medical Schools at Melbourne University, Monash University and UCLA School of Medicine (Reference to ToRs: 1, 2, 4 and 5)

  • Further contribution to the finalization of the WHO International Standard Terminologies for Traditional Medicine (Reference to ToR: 4);

  • Contribution to a number of WHO expert meetings as a Temporary Advisor or a Participant in Seoul (Korea), Geneva and Shanghai (China) (Reference to ToRs: 3 and 4);

  • Continuation on collaboration with a number of Centres (Reference to ToRs: 1, 3, 4 and 5); and

  • Formal opening of the WHO Collaborating Centre, involving WHO representatives, Government ministers and RMIT University senior staff.
