Psychology research specialties

Academic staff has a diverse range of applied research interests, particularly in the areas of Clinical and Health Psychology, Educational and Developmental Psychology, Cross-Cultural Psychology, and Disability. The research activities of our staff are clearly aligned to the scientist-practitioner model than underpins the discipline of psychology. The nexus between theory development and application is a strong focus in our research into the aetiology and treatment of psychological disorders, behaviour modification, remediation of learning disorders (including dyslexia and DCD), and adjustment issues among displaced persons, among others. Our researchers publish widely in high impact journals, and have attracted national competitive research funding and government tenders.

The research of our staff is fairly eclectic. There is a combination of clinically-based, school-based, and laboratory research, as well as Industry Partnerships aligned to more specific objectives. Based on our record of publication, grant successes, and HDR completions, we have identified several broad "units" of research strength:
