The Vice-Chancellor’s Distinguished Teaching Award

Background

This annual Teaching Award recognises the outstanding contribution that an individual academic or teacher, or teaching team, has made. The contribution will evidence the promotion of teaching excellence at RMIT over a sustained time period, model best practice and show influence within the wider educational community. This Award recognises an academic or teacher or team with an exceptional record of advancing student learning, educational leadership and scholarly contribution to learning and teaching.

The Vice Chancellor’s Distinguished Teaching Award consists of a grant of $20,000 which can be used by the recipient to support any project related to their academic/teaching activities and/or for professional development.

Eligibility

All RMIT Higher Education academic and TAFE teaching staff are eligible for this award.

Staff who have been awarded either an ALTC or OLT Award for Teaching Excellence or the Prime Minister’s Award are not eligible to be considered for the Vice-Chancellor’s Distinguished Teaching Award. ALTC or OLT Citation recipients are eligible for selection for the Vice-Chancellor’s Distinguished Teaching Award and must have submitted an application for an RMIT Teaching Award in the current round. RMIT teaching staff who have previously been awarded an RMIT Teaching Award may apply again after a period of five years.

For 2012 only there will be a transition arrangement whereby RMIT Higher Education Discipline and TAFE Outstanding Teaching Award recipients for 2011 will also be considered for selection for the 2012 Vice-Chancellor’s Teaching Award. These recipients do not have to reapply; the University Selection Panel will include their 2011 application in the 2012 round. No updates to the 2011 application will be permitted.

Nomination and selection procedure

No separate nomination process is required for this Award.

The University Selection Panel will consider all current Teaching Award applications and decide whether to recommend an award in this category to the Vice-Chancellor.
