Equity admission schemes

RMIT understands that your background and circumstances can affect your access to education and training. Our equity admission schemes allow you to explain the circumstances that have adversely affected your education and demonstrate your capacity for future academic success.

Note: Completing an equity form isn't the same thing as applying for a program.

If you are applying through an equity admission scheme, you need to follow the application procedures and any extra requirements specified in the VTAC Guide, individual program web pages and brochures.

SEAS and ACESS schemes

The VTAC Special Entry Access Schemes (SEAS) and RMIT Alternative Category Entry Selection Scheme (ACESS) assist applicants whose education has been affected by disadvantage.

The application method required for a program determines whether you should complete a SEAS or an ACESS application form.

For programs accepting entry through:

RMIT Direct Application
Complete the 2010 ACESS Application form (PDF 65KB) in addition to the RMIT University 2010 Direct Application form (PDF 77KB).

Application through VTAC
Please visit the VTAC site and complete their Special Entry Access Schemes (SEAS) application in addition to the VTAC program application.

SNAP Scheme

The Schools Network Access Scheme (SNAP) is RMIT’s non-ENTER based equity admissions scheme for under-represented schools (VTAC SEAS category 7). This means that selection through SNAP into RMIT programs is not determined by your ENTER score.

SNAP facilitates access to programs by Current Year 12 applicants (VCE and VCAL). RMIT SNAP schools are identified by a number of characteristics:

  • Government secondary schools in low socio-economic areas, with high numbers of students from disadvantaged backgrounds
  • Schools within geographical commitments on the part of RMIT, largely in the northern metropolitan area and East Gippsland, with which RMIT has on-going partnerships.

To apply for this scheme you must attend a School listed as part of RMIT SNAP and be endorsed by your SNAP school.

Please see the Equity and Diversity web page with more information about the SNAP scheme.

Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander Access Scheme

The Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander Access Scheme supports the increased participation of Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander students in RMIT TAFE and University programs.

RMIT’s Ngarara Willim Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander Centre provides support at all stages of the application and selection process and subsequently during transition and orientation to a new program of study.
