In the 2007 Budget, the Commonwealth Government introduced changes to higher education funding effective from 2008. The changes included an increase in the maximum student contribution amount for units of study (courses) in accounting, administration, economics and commerce.
The student contribution (fees) for new Higher Education students in Commonwealth supported places undertaking accounting, administration, economics and commerce units of study (courses) will increase in 2008.
Maximum student contribution amounts for these units of study (courses) are now set at the same level as courses in law, medicine, veterinary science and dentistry. In 2008 this amount is $8,499 per course.
If you commenced a program before 2008 and did not complete the program requirements before the end of 2007, you are a ‘pre-2008 student’ and different arrangements apply.
You are considered to be a pre-2008 student if:
To be considered as a pre-2008 student there is no requirement that the program you were undertaking as a Commonwealth supported student prior to 2008 was a program in accounting or related disciplines or that you have undertaken units of study (courses) in accounting or related disciplines prior to 2008.
If you are assessed as a pre-2008 student, the maximum student contribution amount you will pay for a unit of study (course) in accounting, administration, economics and commerce will be $7,260.
The arrangements for pre-2008 students apply until the end of 2012.
If you commence a new program in 2008 and you believe that you are eligible for the pre-2008 student contribution amount for an accounting, administration, economics and/or commerce unit of study (course), you must submit an Application for Pre-2008 Student Contribution Rates form, to the Hub on or before the relevant semester census date.
If you commence study in a new program in 2008 you will be liable for the new student contribution charges. For more information please visit Changes to Student Contribution in 2008.
