Valuation at RMIT

This program provides specific studies within the property field, specialising in valuation. The structure also allows you to gain a broad understanding of the other related areas of property and construction.

You will deal directly with real property including land and all improvements such as buildings, fences, landscaping, clearing, crops, shopping centres, etc. A student completing this degree may also seek a career as a property manager or administrator, land economist, retail manager or other related positions.

Work Experience

You will undertake work experience in industry in fourth-year. This receives significant support from the property industry with employers actively seeking RMIT students.

During work experience, you are employed part-time with a selected property firm and receive an allowance from the employer. You are required to complete a minimum of three days a week for 26 weeks.

You are required to keep a work experience diary.

Duration

Four years full-time.

Students attend lectures, tutorials, workshops and site visits. The program structure is reasonably flexible allowing part-time study after first year.

Fees

Degree

Commonwealth Supported Place (CSP)
A CSP is jointly funded by the Commonwealth Government and the student. In 2009, the fees ranged between $4,162 and $8,677 per year for a standard full-time program. The exact cost varies according to each course.

Changes to fee paying undergraduate places in 2009
The Australian Government has announced that it will phase out fee paying domestic undergraduate places from 1 January 2009 in public universities. However, the Government has announced that it will replace fee paying places with up to 11,000 new Commonwealth Supported Places (CSP) by 2011. Therefore, expectations are that there will be more HECS (Higher Education Contribution Scheme) places on offer at RMIT University in 2009.

There will be no full-fee places at RMIT University offered through VTAC (Victorian Tertiary Admission Centre) for new domestic students in undergraduate programs in 2009. There are some exceptions to the Government’s prohibition on new full-fee undergraduate places which will affect a very small number of students.

Program Structure

The School of Property, Construction and Project Management has a common first year across the following degree streams: Construction Management, Project Management, Property, and Valuation. This enables you to learn and work collaboratively in activities and assessment around a common theme (residential) for first year. You achieve a global understanding of the industry of choice which mirrors what is happening in property and construction careers. The remaining three years have a number of common courses, reinforcing the common links. All four streams have a work experience component (work integrated learning) embedded within the curriculum.

The following program structure(s) are linked to this program.
