SBIT Industry Engagement

Industry Engagement is a new portfolio in the School set up to engage with business, government and professional communities both nationally and internationally for mutual benefit in research and development, education programs and commercial returns. We intend to form strategic partnerships with business and government organizations in the Central Business District and regional Australia, and the Business Information Technology Alumni for joint research and tender applications, projects and education via work integrated learning and specialist IT training programs to industry.

This liaison will benefit industry with IT solutions based on research findings managed by the School, and will enhance innovation in IT programs and research with industry input to support our student learning at both undergraduate and postgraduate levels. We have strong links with IT professional bodies (AIS, ISWORLD, ACS and ALIA,).

Our industry partners to date include:

• CCH Australia as a partner on a successful Australian Research Council Linkage Grant for research on shifting relationships and alliances between key stakeholders in digital publishing;
• Rural Industries Research and Development Corporation for research on the impact of e-government and e-learning initiatives on rural citizens;
• IBM Australia for research and education on Services Science (PDF 213KB);
• Over a hundred IT organizations in Victoria and around the world that provide our undergraduate students with Work Integrated Learning opportunities;
• Over 5,000 Alumni in Australia and Asia;
• Optimal Decisions Group, Sydney and Melbourne for industry experience staff fro academic;
• GS1, Australia for GS1 Australia for research on technology, processes and people operating as part of the supply chain;
• SAP Australia for their contribution to the teaching and learning of ERP Systems;
• Ernst & Young for guest lecturers; and
• Chio Lim Stoneforest, Singapore for student placement.
