Digital Business

The Digital Business research group in the School of Business Information Technology concentrates on understanding and evaluating Internet-enabled businesses and services, and related competencies and connections. The results of our applied research with business and government organisations aim to gain a better understanding of emergent issues with pervasive and ubiquitous computing, business transformation, innovation, knowledge creation, dissemination and utilisation. Our research focuses on:

  • Business to business – e-procurement, e-markets and e-supply chains;
  • Business to consumer – business, technology and consumer issues;
  • Business to employee – internal management of organisations and e-services to employees;
  • E-Government – transformation, evaluation and uptake;
  • E-Business; and
  • E-Services.

Information and Knowledge Management

The management of information and knowledge is the biggest challenge facing organizations today. This team is researching information and knowledge management in relation to organizational change. The focus is on the philosophy of information, in its broadest sense, that prevails in government. This research will explore the implications associated with organising and retrieving information in current and emergent forms, particularly that in multimedia format, and in new modes of access such as mobile technology. The likely tension between those whose brief is information control (for instance a Chief Information Office) and those whose brief is creation of media (for instance the creators of cultural networks) is a specific topic of interest.

Knowledge Management

Suggested Research Topics

  • Managing organization knowledge
  • Knowledge sharing
  • Organizational learning
  • Research capacity and knowledge-production
  • Role of ICT in knowledge management

Academic staff

Research Projects

  • Cost-Benefit Analysis of the Use of Online Resource Discovery Metadata for e-Government
