The GSB’s special series of seminars celebrating 30 years of MBA education at RMIT got off to a lively start when Professor Peter Sheldrake explored the teachings of Plato and their relevance to modern business practice. A keen discussion developed as alumni and students debated whether it is indeed human nature to be guided by self interest and how this might determine the way we use power and manage others.

Alumni, current students and friends of the GSB attended the first in this series of philosophical soirees held at Milano Café in Queen St. MBA (Executive) student Peter Harris commented, “This is what higher education should be about. Plato was working more than 2000 years ago but what he has to say about human nature and the use of power has enormous resonance still today.”

The Great Thinkers Great Practice series continues on Wednesday 16 July with an evening devoted to China’s “Greatest Master”, Confucius.
