CDE Professional Associations

Professional Associations

It is worth considering joining a professional association while you are a student. Most associations provide student memberships at a reduced membership rate. The benefits are that you can participate in the activities of the association, meet professionals already working in the field you wish to enter and hopefully gain work experience and/or ongoing employment.

The other benefits to you are:

  • Increasing your knowledge of the profession and industry you are interested in, which will help you to decide whether you wish to pursue a career in this field
  • Remain up-to-date with developments in the field or industry
  • Meet other students from various universities who share similar interests and career goals
  • Develop vocation skills through participation in professional development activities including workshops, seminars, site visits, employer functions, vacancy listings etc.
  • Find out about vacation work, co-operative and work experience placements

The following list of professional associations has been put together to help you get started. For further links to professional associations you can also check out the fantastic resource, Expert Witnesses.
