A general guide to the qualifications delivered in Australia and New Zealand that may be used to determine English language proficiency for admission to RMIT University.

Minimum scores by level of study.

Australia

Qualification Type  Foundation studies / Vocational education Associate degree and Diploma of Commerce Undergraduate Postgraduate (up to IELTS 6.5)
Victoria Certificate of Education (VCE) Study Score of at least 20 in ESL or EAL; or 15 in units 3 and 4 in any other VCE English subject. Study Score of at least 25 in ESL or EAL; or 20 in units 3 and 4 in any other VCE English subject Study Score of at least 30 in ESL or EAL; or 25 in units 3 and 4 in any other VCE English subject Not applicable
Diploma or Advanced Diploma Successful completion of at least one year of full time study in an Australian diploma or advanced diploma (or higher) or equivalent.
Bachelor degree Successful completion of at least the first year of full time study of a tertiary program (or higher) or equivalent.

New Zealand

NCEA - National Certificate of Educational Achievement* A minimum of 10 credits in English at Level 2 and/or 3. A minimum of 18 credits in English at Level 3. A minimum of 18 credits in English at Level  3. Not applicable

* Note: NCEA awards the grades Not Achieved (N), Achieved (A), Merit (M) and Excellence (E). Grade N can not be counted towards total credits.
