Apply for a new eCoE

If your Electronic Confirmation of Enrolment (eCoE) is due to expire before you complete your studies, you can apply for a new one.

Eligibility

You must study full-time and no more than one third of your program can be studied online. This requirement is in line with RMIT's Enrolment Processes. It is essential that you finish the program at RMIT by the expected date, which is the end date of your eCoE.

RMIT is only allowed to extend the duration of your study if:

  • there are compassionate or compelling circumstances why you cannot complete your program by the end date of your eCoE and/or
  • your School is working with you on an intervention strategy (APIP) because you are at risk of unsatisfactory academic progress.

If you will not complete your program by the expected completion date and meet one of the above requirements, you need to apply for a new eCoE.

Before you apply for a new eCoE, you need to have received all results from the current semester of study to avoid further changes to your eCoE if you fail a course.

If you apply for a student visa using an eCoE that has an incorrect program completion date, you may be required to lodge a further visa application which will be at your own expense.

How to apply for a new eCoE

Complete and submit the Apply for a new eCoE form via the RMIT Connect Portal.

How long does it take to get a new eCoE?

Issuing a new eCoE is not an automatic process, and it will take time to assess your application. It may take up to one month for you to receive your new eCoE.

Applications with approaching visa end dates will be dealt with as a priority.

Your new eCoE will be emailed to your RMIT student email account. It is your responsibility to monitor your student email account.

1545 Visa Fee Application Waiver

As part of your eCoE extension application you will automatically be assessed for the 1545 visa fee application waiver. Eligible students will receive a signed copy of the form with their eCoE extension. This is only available to students who held a student visa on or after 1 February 2020. RMIT will only sign the 1545 form for students that meet the following strict eligibility criteria provided by the Department of Home Affairs:

  • You took a leave of absence as you were unable to enter Australia due to COVID-19 travel restriction.
  • You took a leave of absence as RMIT was unable to deliver the program due to COVID-19.
  • You were forced to study part-time as RMIT was unable to deliver the program full-time due to COVID-19.
  • You were unable to complete work-based training and/or placements due to COVID-19.

Students will not be approved for a 1545 form if the extension is caused because:

  • you failed one or more courses in your program
  • you chose to reduce your study load prior to 2020
  • you chose to reduce your studies to part-time due to difficulty with studying online
  • you chose to take a leave of absence for reasons not stated above
  • of financial difficulties caused by COVID-19.
