PRIOR to making an appointment with the RMIT Counselling Service, Please read the following to determine whether we are the appropriate service to assist you.
Does your situation warrant applying for extension or special consideration?
The RMIT Policy identifies causes such as serious illness or psychological conditions; loss or bereavement, or hardship and trauma which may prevent a student from completing an assessment task or where their performance in an examination was affected.
Who is the best person to make anIMPACT ASSESSMENT STATEMENT?
(i.e. Section B of Special Consideration Application and Section A for Extension of time < 7 days)
The Policy identifies qualified practitioners who are able to make an adequate assessment of the impact of the illness or psychological condition or non-medical grounds. You should consult with a professional who is already familiar with your current circumstances/condition/illness and is able to verify the period of time you have been affected. For non-medical grounds you can provide a variety of other substantiating documentation such as police reports and your application needs to include as much verifiable information as possible, including names, dates and phones numbers that can be checked.
When might RMIT counsellors make an IMPACT ASSESSMENT STATEMENT?
The RMIT Counselling Service will generally only be able to make a sufficient impact assessment if you are currently or have recently engaged in counselling work.
If you have not engaged in counselling over the past six months it may be necessary for the counsellor to make an adequate re-assessment which may take several sessions.
It is generally difficult for counsellors to make an adequate assessment and to be able to verify dates affected through a one-off presentation for a Special Consideration or extension support documentation.
During busy times the demand for counselling appointments is high and a counsellor may not be able to see you within the required time period for lodging applications.
Do you require counselling assistance to manage your issues?
