Course Description
Business Advisory Services aims to deepen your understanding of the problems faced by small businesses and develop in you an appreciation of and knowledge about the management and operation of a small business.This course is of particular interest to those students who may own and/or manage a Small to Medium Enterprise (SME) in the future or will be in a position to advise owners and managers of SMEs.You will be introduced to the practicalities of running a small to medium enterprise.You will also examine case studies designed to give you practical experience in dealing with the real-life problems faced by SME owners/managers.

On successful completion of this course you will be able to:
CLO1: Gather and/or interpret data to develop a plan for the SME which includes a business model and a business plan.
CLO2: Interpret the complexities of SME-related tax requirements to formulate compliant course of action.
CLO3: Distinguish the complexities of HR-related legislative requirements to guide SMEs’ compliance requirements.
CLO4: Advise on and implement a variety of reporting requirements for SMEs to ensure compliance.
CLO5: Analyse the problem(s) and risks faced by SME owners and managers and formulate alternative and practical solutions capable of addressing them.
Overview of Learning Activities
The major learning and teaching between you and staff are face-to-face, class-based lecture and tutorial type activities that involve you in the gaining of knowledge about the small business sector and developing skills to solve problems and issues faced by small businesses. Your self-directed learning will involve completion of the set reading and tutorial-type work, and the assessment tasks.

All required learning material is provided on Canvas. In-class assessments require internet based research in addition to the use of Canvas based materials.
