Course Description

This course is designed to introduce students to the traditions of sculpture. 


Objectives/Learning Outcomes/Capability Development

To introduce students to the traditions of sculpture within the framework of a current art practice and to develop sculptural values and competence in the use of materials and techniques. 

In this course you will develop a greater understanding of sculptural concepts and materials through the establishment and/or further investigation of a personal art practice based in object making. 


Course Learning Outcomes 

Upon successful completion of this course, you will be able to: 

  1. Research and develop concepts for sculptural outcomes 
  2. Translate ideas through sculptural methods 
  3. Develop and resolve sculptural artworks  
  4. Critically reflect on your own work and the work of others 
     


Overview of Learning Activities

You will be actively engaged in a range of learning activities such as lectures, tutorials, seminars, project work, class discussion, individual and group activities. Delivery may be face to face, online, or a mix of both.  

You will be engaged in the traditions of sculpture within the framework of a current art practice and will develop sculptural values and competence in the use of materials and techniques.

You will be assessed on how well you meet the course’s learning outcomes and on your development against the program learning outcomes. 

Assessment Tasks 

  • Project 1 Modelling, Carving and Relief Assemblage 40% CLO 1&2 
  • Project 2 Construction and Fabrication - Relief Sculpture Assemblage 40% CLO 3 
  • Assessment Task 3 Journal 20% CLO4
