Course Description

This course provides strategies that enable you to develop an understanding of the concepts, terminology and processes as they relate to business information systems. This knowledge is then used to design, develop and implement a database system.


Objectives/Learning Outcomes/Capability Development

On successful completion of this course you will be able to:

CLO1. Collaborate as a group for providing an innovative and effective solution to a business problem.

CLO2. Apply the theoretical concepts of database design, development, implementation and management to critically analyse and solve business problem.

CLO3. Design, develop, implement, and manage a prototype database by selecting and applying appropriate data-modelling and database development software tools.

CLO4. Apply basic principles and concepts of programming to enhance database applications. 

CLO5. Demonstrate the application of database as a technology enabler in managing and using data for an organisation.


Overview of Learning Activities

In this course you will be encouraged to be an active learner. Your learning will be supported through various in-class and online activities comprising individual and group work. These may include quizzes; assignments; prescribed readings; sourcing, researching and analysing specific information; solving problems; conducting presentations; producing written work and collaborating with peers on set tasks or projects.
