Course Description

In this course you will explore challenges of using participatory media to enhance mutual understanding between organisations and their stakeholders.

You will explore how to manage the risks associated with working in the public domain of instant, interactive media, in an organisational communication context. You will also create a professional identity online, using emergent media platforms to engage with stakeholders.

Objectives/Learning Outcomes/Capability Development

In this course you will develop the following program learning outcomes:

  • Critically apply strategic communication theories and principles to complex problem solving in your professional practice.
  • Critically analyse, synthesise and reflect on complex theories and recent developments, both local and international, to extend and challenge knowledge and practice in communication.
  • Master a body of knowledge and specific technical skills to progress your professional career within the contemporary media and communication arena.


Upon successful completion of this course you will be able to:

  • Research emerging developments in participatory media within the context of the organisational environment.
  • Critically analyse the ethical significance and reputation implications of using emergent media platforms within strategic communication.
  • Design and present prototype participatory media projects.
  • Critically reflect on applications of participatory media and recommend future possibilities to enhance organisation-stakeholder relationships.

You will be engaged in learning that involves a range of activities both face-to-face and online such as workshops, tutorials, group and class discussion, class activities and individual research.

Overview of Assessment

You will be assessed on how well you meet the course’s learning outcomes and on your development against the program learning outcomes. Assessment may include presentations, projects and may be done individually and in teams.


Assessment Tasks 

Assessment Task 1: Stakeholder engagement social content channel, 30% CLO1 and CLO2 

Assessment Task 2: Digital stakeholder engagement project, 50%, CLO1, CLO3 and CLO4 

Assessment Task 3: Reflective social content post, 20% CLO2 and CLO4
