Course Description

This course will introduce you to the digital world and publishing content in that world. In the course you will explore the business aspects of the digital world, especially strategy, with other areas covered, including digital content, design, usability, communication, current developments, technology, business consideration, eMarketing. Discussions in this course will examine the practical issues faced by those engaged in the publication and delivery of digital material.
 


Objectives/Learning Outcomes/Capability Development

In this course you will develop the following program capabilities: 

  • critically analyse issues and trends in media and communication, including the impact of technologies and globalisation;
  • reflect on social and policy issues in the media and communication industries;
  • develop your knowledge and skills in relation to professional responsibilities and theoretical perspectives of electronic publishing.


On successful completion of this course you will be able to:

  • describe the key issues of web and electronic publishing in a communications context;
  • assess and scope the elements of an electronic-oriented communications campaign;
  • design and develop an electronic publishing brief and sample webpages; and
  • identify and evaluate the principal issues involved in the publication and delivery of online material.


Overview of Learning Activities

The course will take a blended approach in its delivery with learning activities include lectures, practical sessions, group and online class discussion, group activities and individual research.


Overview of Learning Resources

RMIT will provide you with resources and tools for learning in this course through our online systems. You will be introduced to and work with some basic software programs. 


Overview of Assessment

Assessment will cover both theoretical and practical aspects of your learning. You will be able to develop your work in relation to your own specific areas of interest in your professional practice.

Assessment will occur during the course and at the end of the course. Methods may include any combination of assessment tasks such as reports, reflective papers, group work and presentations.

Criteria used for marking assessments will be discussed in class and feedback will be given on all assessment tasks.
