Course Description

You will be introduced to the principles of colouration of textile substrates.You will study a range of finishing processes and procedures both mechanical and chemical that are used to modify the characteristics of textile fabrics. You will also study the main styles of printing including direct, resist and discharge.


Objectives/Learning Outcomes/Capability Development

In this course you will develop the following program learning outcomes:

1. Apply sustainable practices related to fashion and textiles issues.


Upon successful completion of this course, you will be able to:

1. Research and identify factors determining textile dyeing methods.

2. Critically analyse and evaluate issues when selecting dyes for textiles including colour physics and computer matching.

3. Identify and measure finishing processes for textile stability and quality.

4. Develop and analyse digital and non digital textile prints.

The course is taught in a combination of theory and practical laboratory classes. Students are expected to read widely from technical journals and texts available to supplement the information provided during the lectures.
