Course Description

The general aim of this subject is to provide students with exposure to ideas and experiences from Marketing/Logistics Directors, Chief Executives and researchers about a range of topics that are of relevance to present day managers in the marketing/Logistics field. The objective is to provide a forum for presentations and exchanges of ideas that will encourage thinking and provide students with practice in the critical analysis of ideas, on the basis of real world experience.


Objectives/Learning Outcomes/Capability Development

The specific objectives of this course in terms of learning outcomes are:
• to provide students with knowledge in specific areas relevant to marketing and logistics managers in the 21st century.
• to develop an appreciation of the range of skills required by leading marketing and logistics managers
• to develop the ability of students to critically analyse opinions and theories presented in the series
• to develop skills in academic research and writing, so that students gain further insights into aspects of marketing and logistics practice and theory
• to develop an appreciation of current management challenges in different industry sectors
• to provide students with an appreciation of the constraints and difficulties in making effective marketing and logistics decisions in real world practice



Overview of Learning Activities

The learning will occur in a variety of modes. The basic format will be a Seminar Series of presentations by industry leaders, around which students will be required to undertake their own independent reading and research to supplement the material and case studies presented.
In addition, students will be expected to participate in class discussions around the presentations, and to direct their own learning in their individual assignments.
