You should undertake COMM2308 Print and Electronic Production at the same time as this course as it contains areas of knowledge and skills which are implemented together in practice. COMM2308 is a co-requisite course.

Course Description
In this course you will cover advanced features of editorial practice, including working with translations, editing indexes, and managing private practice. You will explore the theoretical and practical aspects of editorial practice for both a digital and print environment.

Course Learning Outcomes
Upon successful completion of this course, you will be able to:
- Analyse and apply your knowledge, principles and skills in editing and proofreading for a diverse range of texts to a professional standard.
- Identify and discuss the needs of all stakeholders within the editorial process and the relationship between the writer and editor.
- Critically analyse the dynamic between culture and commerce inherent in the industry.
- Provide editorial feedback and advice to both authors and stakeholders.

In this course you will develop the following program learning outcomes:
- Develop broad industry-based knowledge and skills for application across the local and global publishing industry.
- Employ appropriate technical skills and theoretical knowledge to solve problems associated with book publishing.
- Work collaboratively to plan and produce communication projects appropriate to the publishing environment.
- Critically reflect on your own work to demonstrate autonomy, good judgement and ethical responsibility.
Overview of Learning Activities
This course will take a blended approach to its delivery with learning activities that involve a range of activities, including lectures, tutorials, group discussion and activities, peer review and individual research. All sessions are face to face.
