Course Description
To explore:
- the roles of energy in social and economic development
- the environmental impacts of energy supply and use
- patterns and trends in energy supply and use
- energy policies and policies influencing energy supply and use at the national, state and local levels
- scenarios of future energy supply and demand and evaluation of their consistency with principles of ecological sustainability
To develop skills in:
- Evaluation of energy use patterns in homes and business
- Assessment and analysis of effectiveness of policies and strategies
- Use of case studies as a basis for development of policy
- Research, presentations and writing
Objectives/Learning Outcomes/Capability Development
The course aims to develop:
- an understanding of the key concepts, principles and issues relating to development of sustainable energy
- experience in finding, analysing and using relevant resources relating to sustainable energy issues
- capacity to present clearly, effectively and quickly information relating to an aspect of sustainable energy
- capacity to develop and implement sustainable energy strategies within organisations
This will involve exploration of:
- the roles of energy in social and economic development
- the environmental impacts of energy supply and use
- patterns and trends in energy supply and use
- energy policies and policies influencing energy supply and use at the national, state and local levels
- scenarios of future energy supply and demand and evaluation of their consistency with principles of ecological sustainability
At the end of this course you will be able to:
- Evaluate energy use patterns in homes and business
- Assess and analyse effectiveness of policies and strategies
- Use case studies as a basis for development of policy
- Carry out research, make presentations and write documents on energy issues
