You should have satisfactorily completed the prerequisite courses GRAP 2334 - Digital Textile Design & Communication & GRAP2335 - Digital Textile Design and Illustration before you commence this course.


Course Description

In this course you will create digital textile designs for the marketplace utilizing Vector based software. You will interpret trend research and original drawings to develop resolved textile designs and prototype product ideas that are engaging, address sustainability principles and that are relevant for the marketplace and commercial textile related applications.


Objectives/Learning Outcomes/Capability Development

In this course you will develop the following program learning outcomes:

• Research - Collate and synthesize visual and text based material using appropriate methodologies for textile design.

• Design - Design and apply principles of textile design processes and techniques to create original textile based concepts and outcomes.

• Digital Media - Develop and apply technical and creative skills using digital media efficiently and effectively.

• Sustainability - Examine, critique and evaluate underlying principles and concepts of sustainability appropriate to textile design and the textile industry. 


Upon successful completion of this course, you will be able to:

• Describe and interpret collected trend research and sustainability related reference materials to inform design development and textile design themed project briefs.

• Translate and apply complex motifs created with traditional mark making methods to meet industry standards utilizing digital software.

• Create advanced repeat and textile structures, pattern fills and Pantone colour swatches appropriate to a range of textile related products.

• Present and construct prototypes to communicate design concepts utilizing vector based software for planning and mapping.

This course will take a blended approach to its delivery with learning activities that include lectures, practical exercises, group and online class discussion, group activities and individual research.
