Course Description

This course provides you with the opportunity to explore specialised and emerging imaging technologies and advanced image editing techniques. 

You will investigate the ethical considerations involved with photo manipulation while developing practical techniques to manipulate images to achieve desired results. You will evaluate a broad range visual photographic styles, as used in the global art, communication and media industries. You will develop the knowledge and skills to utilise imaging technologies and techniques to construct specific visual messages to target specific audiences. 

 


Objectives/Learning Outcomes/Capability Development

In this course you will develop the following program learning outcomes:

  • Utilize advanced photographic knowledge and technical skills to contribute to visual discourses in your chosen field of photography.
  • Apply a body of theoretical and practical knowledge and specific skills in the discipline in which to base your professional practice or future study.


Upon successful completion of this course, you will be able to:

  1. Apply advanced image editing skills in the production of photographic images to meet creative objectives.
  2. Investigate and apply appropriate digital compositing practices in the production of photographic images.
  3. Creatively respond to a range of digital retouching and editing projects
  4. Recognise and explore the ethical issues of authenticity and representation in contemporary photographic processes.

The course will be presented through a range of activities including workshops tutorials, lectures, critical analysis, class critiques, practical exercises and reflections.

You will have access to professional photographic equipment, workstations, studios and printers to support your learning. There may be consumable costs associated with producing some assessments in hard copy.

You will be assessed on how well you meet the course learning outcomes and on your development against the program learning outcomes. 

Assessment Tasks 

Assessment Task 1: Lightroom production editing & workflow(30%) 
CLOs: 1, 3, 4 

Assessment Task 2: Fixed Position Composite (30%) 
CLOs: 1, 2, 4 

Assessment Task 3: Photoshop editing projects (40%)
CLOs: 1, 2, 3
