You should have satisfactorily completed the prerequisite course OART1013 Interactive Media 1 before you commence this course.

Alternatively you may be able to demonstrate the required skills and knowledge before you start this course.

Course Description

In this course you will investigate and evaluate issues relating to experience design, technology in social contexts, transmedia, and interactive narratives. The focus will be on the use of pre-production aids and schematics for refining project ideas, and the management of documentation across the lifecycle of a project. You will also incorporate dynamic elements such as animation, sound, text, graphics and video into interactive media projects. Scripting languages will be explored as part of the interactive media authoring process, to enable you to create responsive and personalised interactive projects.

Objectives/Learning Outcomes/Capability Development

Upon the successful completion of this course you will be able to:

• Examine the interrelationship of interaction and experience, and how individuals use media content.
• Compare and contrast transmedia content to identify contemporary narrative approaches.
• Apply design principles to develop interfaces and produce new solutions to a range of interactive design problems.
• Select technology and shape media content for multi- platform delivery to diverse audiences.
• Reflect on the effectiveness of interactive design solutions and possible enhancements.

You will be assessed on your development of the following program learning outcomes in this course:

• Apply initiative and judgment in planning, problem solving and decision making in your practice or future study.
• Apply a body of theoretical and practical knowledge and specific skills in media and communication, in which to base your professional practice or future study.

You will be engaged in learning that involves a range of face-to-face activities such as workshops, lectures, tutorials, group and class discussion, class activities and individual research.
