The assumed knowledge for this course requires the students have the ability to identify and define sustainability problems and/or issues (as expressed for ENVI1183 Sustainability Body of Practice 1)


Course Description

The Sustainability Body of Practice 1-4 courses aim to articulate a range of different practices from different disciplines that can be used to navigate progress through a particular problem solving or management cycle.

Sustainability Body of Practice 2 will establish your experience and needs and develop your understanding of the tools and techniques of sustainability, including current and emerging goals, rules, regulations and sustainability standards. The course will use case studies and your current project work to identify areas of controversy. It will assist you to decide what to look for and what is important in order to develop your ability to match tools and techniques to the nature of the problem to be solved. Raising awareness of community needs is also addressed.


Objectives/Learning Outcomes/Capability Development

This course contributes to the following Program Learning Outcomes for MC240 Master of Sustainable Practice

K1  A body of knowledge that includes the understanding of recent developments of sustainability in discipline and/or area of professional practice.

K2  Knowledge of research principles and methods applicable to a field of work and or learning.

S1  Cognitive skills to demonstrate mastery of theoretical knowledge and to reflect critically on theory and professional practice or scholarship.

S2  Cognitive, technical and creative skills to investigate, analyse and synthesise complex information, problems, concepts and theories and to apply established theories to different bodies of knowledge or practice.

On completion of this course you should be able to:

1 Identify and define sustainability problems

2 Develop an understanding of sustainability principles as they refer to sustainability issues such as natural resources and manmade processes

3 Propose options for solutions to sustainability problems

4 Develop measures of performance such as Eco Footprint, Environmental Impact

5 Develop ways to implement the tools and techniques above


Overview of Learning Activities

The learning activities in this course are workshops where you are expected to actively participate in activities around the issues of emerging goals, rules, regulations and standards that use sustainability principles. During the course you will explore a particular area of sustainability negotiated with your supervisor.

Overview of Assessment

☒This course has no hurdle requirements.

The course assessment reflects the aim to encourage research on a topic of sustainability thus assessment is heavily weighted towards the production of a Research Report.
