Pre-requisite Courses and Assumed Knowledge and Capabilities

The ability to identify and define sustainability problems and/or issues and the ability to develop proposals (as developed in Sustainability Practice 1 and 2).


Course Description

The set of Sustainability Body of Practice courses aim to articulate a range of different practices from different disciplines that can be used to move through the problem solving or managing cycle of sustainability problems. This course focuses on using the sustainability body of practice in your work in the ‘community’ (where community is extended to mean the employer organisation, with government or the broader community or simulated environment).


Objectives/Learning Outcomes/Capability Development

The course develops the following Program capabilities:
S3 Cognitive, technical and creative skills to generate and evaluate complex ideas and concepts at an abstract level
S4 Communication and technical research skills to justify and interpret theoretical propositions, methodologies, conclusions and professional decisions to specialist and non-specialist audiences
A2 With high level personal autonomy and accountability

On successful completion of this course, you will be aware of skills required to lead, manage and participate effectively in change processes and evaluate the activities undertaken for efficacy of project reporting.

The learning activities in this course are workshops where you are expected to actively participate in the following activities:
• contribute to other students’ projects
• case studies of change in organizations and community

During the course you will explore a particular area of sustainability negotiated with your supervisor.

Course information and learning materials will be provided through myRMIT or in class. Lists of reference texts, resources in the library and freely accessible Internet sites will be provided.
 


Overview of Assessment

The assessment for this course comprises a written report on a negotiated topic, a project brief submitted during the semester and presentations.
