Course Description
This course is designed to assist you to draw on the skills and knowledge acquired in Business Research Design (BUSM4448) to undertake a research project in procurement or logistics and supply chain management. It provides you the opportunity to build upon the substantive theories learnt in the core procurement and supply chain management courses to analyse real business problems or investigate operational issues faced by organisations. The course comprises a mix of research method workshops and one-on-one consultative sessions.
The research method workshops will cover topics ranging from scoping a research idea, writing a literature review, developing the research methodology, documenting the findings, framing the result discussion and reaching conclusion. The one-on-one consultative sessions will centre on issues relating to the conduct of your research, giving you the opportunity to raise questions, clarify doubts and receive feedback on your writing.
This course includes a Work Integrated Learning (WIL) experience in which your knowledge and skills will be applied and assessed in a real or simulated workplace context and where feedback from industry and/or community is integral to your experience.

On successful completion of this course you will be able to:
- Independently investigate problem situations in procurement and supply chain and logistics management to develop informed approaches for their resolution
- Explain and critique key business and management concepts, theories and methods to make reasoned judgement about their applicability to contemporary practices in procurement and supply chain and logistics management
- Conduct a systematic structured literature review on specific issues pertaining to procurement and supply chain and logistics practices
- Identify, select and design appropriate research methodologies to study unusual phenomena or operations problems in procurement and supply chain and logistics management
- Independently explore contemporary practices and issues in procurement and supply chain and logistics operations to extent or build new theories
Overview of Learning Activities
Lecturer inputs: A range of learning experiences is planned for you including research methods seminars, data analysis workshops, and tutorials on research report writing. Your inputs as learners: Your active and constructive participation in discussion is expected. This is in addition to weekly reading, group and individual exercises or assignments and careful planning and completion of assessment tasks.
In this course you will be encouraged to be an active learner. Your learning will be supported through various in-class and online activities comprising individual and group work. These may include quizzes; assignments; prescribed readings; sourcing, researching and analysing specific information; solving problems; conducting presentations; producing written work and collaborating with peers on set tasks or projects.
