This course focuses on the application of empirically validated interventions in the management of specific psychological problems in adults and the broader issues associated with chronic health conditions. During the course you will focus on the following aspect of psychological practice:

  • PLO2:  Develop a comprehensive and critical understanding of the legislative frameworks and ethical codes and guidelines that guide professional psychological practice at a personal and professional level.
  • PLO 3:  Design, analyse, synthesise and communicate information from a wide variety of psychological assessments and techniques appropriate to the developmental stage, cognitive level and cultural background of the client, and appropriate to the purpose of the assessment.

  3. Select appropriate psychological techniques for intervention in a variety of specific adult psychological problems and discuss sources of stress associated with acute and chronic illnesses.
  4. Evaluate, in the context of day-to-day clinical practice, the effectiveness of a variety of interventions used in the treatment of adult psychological problems.
  5. Reflect on and synthesise practical experiences gained in health care agencies with the psychological theory pertinent to illness behaviour.
