Course Description

In this course you will learn about theories, concepts and practices to ensure you develop the skills and knowledge to create successful visual merchandising strategies and displays.
This course prepares you to manage merchandise and store presentations for specific target markets. You will learn to investigate, analyse and interpret information relevant to visual merchandising in the textile, clothing and footwear industry (TCF).


Objectives/Learning Outcomes/Capability Development

Upon successful completion of this course you will be able to:

  • Identify, analyse and reflect on trends in fashion and textiles, either locally or globally
  • Apply initiative and judgement in planning, problem solving and decision making in your study
  • Develop fashion and textiles products and present to peers or potential clients.


In this course you will develop the following program learning outcomes:

  • Analyse and evaluate current visual merchandising techniques used locally and globally
  • Create product promotional strategies to communicate brand knowledge for retailers and their target markets
  • Collaborate with the fashion industry to implement the coordination, sourcing and construction of visual window displays
  • Follow OH&S practices and guidelines in relation to visual merchandising processes
  • Identify and apply appropriate design tools to communicate ideas visually.
     


Overview of Learning Activities

You will be engaged in learning that involves a range of class activities that cover theoretical and practical components of fashion visual merchandising. You are encouraged to actively participate in class tutorials, practical demonstrations, field trips, class exercises and discussions.
