Satisfactory completion of year one in the BH103 Bachelor of Fashion (Design) (Honours) Program (96 credit points).
Course Description
Fashion Design Elective 3 provides your third opportunity in the Fashion program to elect and pursue a particular disciplinary specialisation so as to develop a range of capabilities that you see as an important extension to the capabilities and learning experiences gained through core courses.
A variety of elective units are offered for you to choose from four key program streams: Technology, Communications, Design Projects and Design Studies.
Elective offerings range from specialised tutorials on specific industry practices & technologies, to speculative design projects or design histories. The elective offering that you select to study may be vertically integrated with students from other year levels and enrolled in other Fashion Design Elective courses so that the widest diversity of offerings is possible and so that you have an opportunity to work with and learn from fellow students from other year levels and other disciplines. Selection of an elective unit is made usually the week before classes begin and the offerings will vary from semester to semester.
Objectives/Learning Outcomes/Capability Development
Fashion Design Elective courses complement the capabilities being developed in other courses in years 2 and 3 of the Bachelor of Fashion (Design)(Honours) program.
Upon successful completion of the course you will be able to:
• demonstrate an understanding of a particular specialisation or build on existing knowledge, skills or experiences
• implement the application of your particular specialisation
• carry out research for design projects, techniques or communications relevant to fashion
• employ analytical and research expertise applicable to design studies
Overview of Learning Activities
You will encounter a diverse range of learning experiences including: project-based learning, the development of fashion design capabilities and the expansion of your experiences through self-directed research, analysis, reflection, peer interaction, discussions and presentations.
Seminars and practical design oriented workshop sessions conducted by your lecturer and industry practitioners will provide the platform for information sharing, analysis, expertise and guidance and the evaluation of projects and assessment tasks.
You may work in small groups and/or individually on learning exercises including projects, presentations and portfolio.
Given the highly participative, practical and peer to peer mode of learning it is essential for your learning that you participate in all set activities in order for you to gain sufficient knowledge and practice to successfully complete this course.
Satisfactory completion of all projects on specified dates will be necessary to meet the requirements for final assessment.
