Successful completion of at least 8 courses in the Bachelor of Business in Business Information Systems degree.
Course Description
The course is designed:
(a) to develop awareness of the employability skills, attributes, dispositions, qualities and values required of ICT professionals,
(b) to promote the development of the necessary skills, knowledge and tools to get a job and
(c) to transition smoothly into the workplace to become a contributing member of an organisation.
Objectives/Learning Outcomes/Capability Development
This course may develop a number of the following program capabilities:
- Ability to engage with others in culturally diverse and technically complex situations. The cluster of interpersonal skills is addressed in this course at various levels. It is also recognised that the sustainable development in global organisations require the development of life-long learning skills and effective project team membership
- Ability to apply the most appropriate tool and/or technique for the situation at hand.
- Ability to recognise the uncertainty of business decision-making due to the dynamic, global context businesses operate in.
- Ability to frame judgements and work practice within professional, legal and ethical frameworks
At the conclusion of this course you will be able to:
* communicate effectively and persuasively in various forms to different audiences
* articulate skills, attributes and career aspirations in both written and oral form
* critically reflect on experiences and issues
* evidence the development of a number of professional attributes and expertise
* demonstrate a greater awareness of the IT industry, job market and IT profession
Overview of Learning Activities
Learning activities will be predominately experiential in nature with opportunities to apply and practice effective communication skills and techniques in a range of different contexts. The learning activities will be a mix of individual and group activities.

There is no prescribed textbook required for this course. You will have access to online course materials on myRMIT (www.rmit.edu.au/myrmit), RMIT Library, Career Development and Education and Learning Skills Units.
Overview of Assessment
The assessments in this course are designed for you:
(a) to evaluate and articulate your own personal skills, knowledge, dispositions, values, motivations, career aspirations and learning strategies
(b) to search out, then analyse and critically assess suitable IT jobs in order to produce highly professional job applications
(c) to apply the interpersonal skills required to communicate and behave with sensitivity to a situation and/or context (organisational, employment and professional)
(d) to research, analyse, critically assess and communicate an IT issue within an organisation
(e) to reflect, think critically and articulate learnings from own practices and experiences
Assessment types may include learning journals, team projects and assignments.
Feedback will be provided throughout the semester in class, online feedback and individual consultation.
