Course Description

The Research Dissertation course requires you to undertake the research project prepared in Research Proposal and Ethics and thus to contribute to the evidence base for the healthcare/community care field. You will be guided by a supervisor(s) in the implementation of the project, data gathering and analysis, and the writing-up and presentation of findings to a high academic and research standard.


Objectives/Learning Outcomes/Capability Development

Course Learning Outcomes:
At the conclusion of this course you should be able to:

  • collect and analyse data within the context of a psychological research project.
  • present information to an audience in a clear, concise, interesting and informative manner.
  • prepare and write a research report, critically relating the research to the relevant body of scientific literature within the field of health care and/or community care.

Overview of Learning Activities

To achieve the requirements associated with this course you are expected to meet regularly, weekly or fortnightly with your thesis supervisor/s. Learning activities will be identified during these meetings and be individually negotiated with your supervisor to meet the learning outcomes of this course.

The learning resources associated with this course will also be identified during your supervisory meetings and may include targeted readings, reference and online material and a range of primary resources. Material chosen may be digitally available to you. RMIT will provide you with resources and tools for learning in this course through our online systems.


Overview of Assessment

The assessment associated with this course will be in the form of submission of your written dissertation along with a presentation of your findings to your peers and health science staff. These assessments are designed to require students to demonstrate a critical analysis of the core principles presented in the course.
