Course Description
This course introduces you to the principles and foundation knowledge underpinning the use of herbal medicine. Whilst the prescription of herbal medicine is beyond the scope of practice for Osteopaths, and needs further training and qualification, a significant proportion of patients seeking osteopathic care may be using such products. They may also ask about such products, and it is important to understand mechanisms, indications, and contraindications of herbal medicines. These principles will be explored in this course.
This course includes a Work Integrated Learning experience in which your knowledge and skills will be applied and assessed in a simulated workplace context through the use of case-based scenarios, and where feedback from industry and/or community is integral to your experience.

You will study the role of nutrition in maintaining health and the associated clinical requirements and expectations of osteopathic practice in Australia. Lecture material and related resources are available on the Learning Management System
Tutorial based clinical simulation activities involve group discussion to encourage independent opinion and provide shared experiences from which you and your fellow students can learn.
