Course Description

In this course, you will have the opportunity to work within an organisational context to develop a business case for an OHS intervention. 

With the assistance and approval from your organisation sponsor, you will implement an OHS intervention project in an organisation of your choice. This project may relate to a chemical, physical, psychosocial or organisational OHS issues appropriate to your organisation.  

You are required to identify the research title and secure approval from the course coordinator at the beginning of the final year session. You will be guided by your RMIT supervisor in the design and implementation of your project and will have individual regular contact with your project supervisor(s). 

This is the designated Work Integrated Learning (WIL) course for MC282 and GD052.  This course includes a work integrated learning experience in which your knowledge and skills will be applied and assessed in a real or simulated workplace context and where feedback from industry and/or community is integral to your experience. 


Objectives/Learning Outcomes/Capability Development

Program Learning Outcomes (PLOs)

In this course you will develop the following program learning outcomes:

  • Determine and apply knowledge of complex occupational health and safety theory, principles and best practice to applied projects to contribute to the profession and discipline of occupational health and safety
  • Professionally communicate and justify project scope, design, implementation, strategy and /or outcomes, engaging effectively with diverse stakeholders across a range of industry sectors
  • Utilise specific research and technical skills to develop and implement occupational health and safety strategies and solutions that address complex problems and issues to enhance health and safety deliverables and governance in creative and sustainable ways

 

 


Course Learning Outcomes (CLOs) 

Upon successful completion of this course, you will be able to:

  1. Conceptualize workplace project proposals (project brief) that focuses on health and safety intervention
  2. Critically Review literature relevant to intervention projects
  3. Collect and critically analyse data relevant to intervention projects
  4. Develop reports integrating projects steps and outcomes
  5. Communicate the outcome of intervention projects to stakeholders. 

 

 

 


Overview of Learning Activities

You will be actively engaged in a range of learning activities such as lectures, tutorials, seminars, project work, class discussion,individual and group activities. Delivery may be face to face, online or a mix of both.

You will be assessed on how well you meet the course’s learning outcomes and on your development against the program learning outcomes. Assessment consists of:

Task 1: Intervention project: Project brief 30%CLO1 

Task 2: Intervention project: Research report 50% CLOS2,3,&4 

Task 3: Intervention project: Presentation 20% Clos4&5 

Feedback will be given on all assessment tasks.
