Course Description
In this course you will explore emerging colour and lighting theories in relation to interior spaces with an emphasis on health and wellbeing in specialized interiors. You will specify innovative design solutions through experimenting with technology and materials. You will adopt an environmentally sustainable approach to researching the latest products to inform your designs.
Objectives/Learning Outcomes/Capability Development
In this course you will develop the following program outcomes:
- Work with industry to develop and promote a globally sustainable practice of good design and decoration with a focus to the future.
- Engage with contemporary trends in the interior design industry and investigate related emerging and evolving manufacturing technologies and materials.
- Apply knowledge and skills of space planning, construction and fit out to select and specify materials, furnishings, colour and lighting for interior solutions.
- Create design solutions to meet the needs of the client and address all industry conventions in both manual and digital formats in response to a design brief.
- Implement broad knowledge and skills of space planning, construction and fit out to select and specify materials, furnishings, colour and lighting for sustainable interior solutions.
- Apply initiative to work both independently and collaboratively and perform effectively as a member of a creative team with responsibility and accountability for own learning and work.
- Communicate your ideas and designs through a broad range of technology and presentation techniques to a range of stakeholders including clients and relevant industry practitioners.
Upon successful completion of this course you will be able to:

- Develop presentations that effectively communicate your ideas and outcomes using relevant design language

Learning activities will include independent research, supervised project and team work, reflection, peer feedback and guest presenter demonstrations

Overview of Assessment
You will be assessed on how well you meet course learning outcomes and on your development against program learning outcomes.
Assessment may include a range of activities such as in-class exercises, project work, reports and presentations in a variety of media formats.
Feedback will be given progressively throughout the course and on all assessment tasks
Assessment tasks in this course are either formative or summative. Formative tasks provide the basis for ongoing feedback and can be considered essential building blocks for the more substantial summative assessment tasks. Summative assessment tasks in this course are graded.
Feedback throughout the course may be written, verbal or a combination of both.
