Course Description

In this course, you will experiment with various story structures enabled by digital and networked technologies. You will also develop techniques for the development of non-linear and interactive narratives.

You will experiment with story concepts across a variety of platforms. This project may be actually produced in a subsequent course.


Objectives/Learning Outcomes/Capability Development

In this course you will develop the following program learning outcomes:

  • Critically analyse, synthesise and reflect on complex theories and recent developments, both local and international, to extend and challenge knowledge and practice in your field. 
  • Master a body of knowledge and specific technical skills to progress your professional career within the contemporary media and communication arena.


On successful completion of this course you will be able to:

  1. Critically analyse international best practice in production of diverse media.
  2. Reflect on the structural complexities of digital storytelling.
  3. Research and review contemporary digital storytelling strategies.
  4. Create and justify content for a range of mediums and audiences.
  5. Critically reflect on ways in which media and communication convergence influences and shapes approaches to story-telling.

You will be engaged in a range of face to face and online activities such as lectures, tutorials, group and class discussion, studios, group activities and individual research.

Overview of Assessment

You will be assessed on how well you meet the course’s learning outcomes and on your development against the program learning outcomes.

Assessment may include reports, projects and presentations, individually and in groups. Assessment will cover both theoretical and practical aspects of your learning. You will be able to develop your work in relation to your own specific areas of interest in your professional practice.

Feedback will be given on all assessment tasks.
