Course Description

In this course you will explore issues of teacher wellbeing by examining the social, emotional, physical and environmental factors that influence your work as a teacher. The course focuses on identifying and managing work related health and wellbeing. You will develop skills for challenging work -place situations such as handling conflict resolution, active listening, difficult questions, stress, anxiety, bullying and harassment, as well as working with parents and the public. The course will include investigation of legal and ethical considerations, policy implications and professional support related to planning for short-term and long-term wellbeing in your career.

In this course you will develop the following program learning outcomes:

● Critically analyse and apply educational research to your professional practice, demonstrating inclusive, learner-focused, evidence-based teaching.

● Demonstrate a capacity for critically reflective practice including social, environmental and cultural professional awareness in both local and global contexts.

● Communicate and engage professionally and ethically with students, colleagues, parents, carers and education stakeholders from diverse backgrounds.

● Show commitment to ongoing professional learning, particularly in relation to meeting the Australian Graduate Standards for Teachers.

Overview of Learning Activities

Your learning in this course will involve a range of face-to-face and online activities including lectures, workshops, practical activities, individual tasks, collaborative group work, discussion and individual reflection

You will be provided with a list of recommended learning resources by your lecturer, including books, journal articles and web resources. You will also be expected to seek further resources relevant to the focus of your own learning.
 


Overview of Assessment

You will be assessed on how well you meet the course learning outcomes and on your development against the program learning outcomes. Assessment will cover both theoretical and practical aspects of your learning. You will be able to develop your work in relation to your own specific areas of interest in your professional practice. There are two assessment tasks

 Task 1. Analysis of Teacher Wellbeing Cases (50%) 2000 words  1, 2, 3  3.5, 3.7, 4.3, 7.1
 Task 2. Personal and Professional Teacher Wellbeing Plan (50%) 2000 words  2, 3, 4 6.2, 6.3, 7.4
