Course Description

In this course you will examine the relationship between Information Communication Technology (ICT) and education and reflect on how learning can be effectively supported by ICT. You will critically examine the role of educational technologies and develop strategies for using ICT in responsible and ethical ways in the classroom.

This course includes a work integrated learning experience in which your knowledge and skills will be applied and assessed in a real or simulated workplace context and where feedback from industry and/or community is integral to your experience.


Objectives/Learning Outcomes/Capability Development

Your learning in this course is focussed on development of the following program level capabilities.

Undergraduate program level capabilities:

  • Apply initiative and judgment in planning, problem solving and decision making to enhance your practice and continuing professional development
  • Work with others in a range of roles and contexts, demonstrating cultural, environmental and social awareness and ethical and reflective practice
  • Critically analyse, synthesise and reflect on educational policy and practice in both local and international contexts
  • Communicate using a range of formats and strategies to audiences within and external to the discipline of education.

Postgraduate program level capabilities:

  • Determine and apply the specialist knowledge and professional skills required to creatively solve problems, demonstrating expert judgement and ethical responsibility relating to your professional practice
  • Critically analyse, synthesise and reflect on complex theories and recent developments, both local and international, to extend and challenge knowledge and practice in education
  • Professionally communicate with specialist and non-specialist audiences, as producers and consumers of knowledge, about philosophical and pedagogical propositions, processes and outcomes.


At the conclusion of this course you will be assessed on the following learning outcomes:

  • Interpret issues of educational technology and effectively communicate to colleagues, students, parents, carers and the community
  • Critically analyse strategies to create and maintain supportive and safe learning environments
  • Draw upon a range of ICT resources, applications and software, to implement creative, inclusive, engaging and challenging learning and teaching activities
  • Compare, contrast and critically evaluate educational technologies in a schooling context.
     


Overview of Learning Activities

You will be engaged in learning that involves a range of activities both face to face and online such as lectures, tutorials, professional experience, group and class discussion, group activities and individual research. 


Overview of Learning Resources

RMIT will provide you with resources and tools for learning in this course through our online systems. A list of recommended learning resources will be provided by your lecturer, including books, journal articles and web resources. You will also be expected to seek further resources relevant to the focus of your own learning.


Overview of Assessment

You will be assessed on how well you meet the course’s learning outcomes and on your development against the relevant program (undergraduate or postgraduate) capabilities.

Assessment may include reports, projects and presentations, professional experience, individually and in groups. Assessment will cover both theoretical and practical aspects of your learning. You will be able to develop your work in relation to your own specific areas of interest in your professional practice.

Feedback will be given on all assessment tasks.
