Course Description

In this course you will apply fundamental movement theory to understand how physical movement and skills acquisition contribute to children’s movement competency and performance. Through practical sessions you will develop and apply an understanding of how various pedagogical models and theories inform practice in teaching tactical awareness and fundamental movement skills. Further understanding of movement patterns and skill acquisition will also be developed through the progressive and sequential teaching of skills in games settings.

  • Modify movement to meet individualised needs.

Overview of Learning Activities

You will be engaged in learning that involves face to face lectures, individual and group research, and practical sessions which support understanding of analytical movement principles to analyse range of movement activities reflecting learning by primary school-aged children.

Feedback will be given on all assessment tasks.

Assessment Task 1: Movement Analysis and modify movement to meet individual needs, equivalent to 2000 words, 50%

Part A - As a group member you will select a movement, undertake a skill analysis of a child’s performance of this movement. The group will present a written report on how this performance may be improved through successful and informed teaching and coaching. (LO 1, 2)
Part B - As a group member you will make modifications to a movement activity to ensure that all individualised needs are met. (LO 3)

Assessment Task 2: Game Sense Awareness Analysis, equivalent to 2000 words, 50%

You will select a game or a movement activity and develop a game sense awareness approach to the performance of this activity and analyse it. You will include a risk analysis of the chosen activity. (LO 2)

If you have a long term medical condition and/or disability it may be possible to negotiate to vary aspects of the learning or assessment methods. You can contact the program coordinator or the Disability Liaison Unit if you would like to find out more.
