Course Description

In this studio, you will further develop practice in your digital specialisation (interactive media, digital video, digital audio or digital environments) and design a major work, which responds in an innovative way to a complex set of design problems. Through the production of this specialised project, you will develop your professional skills including research and creative design. You will also explore emerging industry trends.

Objectives/Learning Outcomes/Capability Development

You will be assessed on your development against the following Program Learning Outcomes:   • Acquire knowledge of visual literacy and design theory, interactive and motion design, moving image, communications technologies, and digital media production skills and their application to digitally mediated communication.  • Apply theoretical knowledge, conceptual skills and production techniques to the development of digital media solutions for communications problems.  • Critically analyse, synthesise and reflect on the role, application and implications of digital media works in both local and international contexts. • Demonstrate creativity, critical thinking and innovation when identifying and solving problems in divers contexts within the discipline. • Communicate using diverse formats and strategies to audiences within and external to your discipline. • Work with others in a range of roles and contexts, demonstrating cultural, environmental and social awareness and ethical and reflective practice.  • Apply initiative and judgement in planning, problem solving and decision making in your practice or future study. • Apply a body of theoretical and practical knowledge and specific skills in media and communication, in which to base your professional practice or future study.

 

Upon the successful completion of this course you will be able to:

1. Research, discuss and evaluate contemporary theories and practices in a digital specialisation.
2. Investigate and apply design theory and technology to respond to creative digital briefs.
3. Apply appropriate production processes for cross-platform project delivery.
4. Critically analyse and evaluate your own work and that of your peers, in relation to emerging industry trends.

You will be actively engaged in learning that involves a range of activities such as studios, project work, lectures, tutorials, class discussion, individual and group activities.

Overview of Assessment

 

You will be assessed on how well you meet the course learning outcomes and on your development against the program learning outcomes. Assessment may include reports, reflective papers, creative projects and presentations, individually and in groups. Assessment will cover both theoretical and practical aspects of your learning.   Feedback will be provided throughout the semester in class and/or online discussions, through individual and group feedback on practical exercises and by individual consultation. Feedback will be given on all assessment tasks.

 

Assessment Task 1 (10%) “Initial Response Presentation” Linked to course learning outcomes: 1   Assessment Task 2 (20%) “Milestone Presentation” Linked to course learning outcomes: 2, 3.   Assessment Task 3 (40%) “Final Project Presentation”  Linked to course learning outcomes: 1, 2, 3.    Assessment Task 4 (30%) “Final Project Reflection and Critical Analysis”  Linked to course learning outcomes: 4.
