Course Description

This course will enable you to extend and refine your communication strategies, techniques and processes through a specific design project. You will explore and innovate with techniques and processes relevant to the specific design project. You will demonstrate proficiency in digital, material and physical processes for a publication and exhibition outcome.  
You are presented with a suite of different offerings and, through a preferencing system, ballot for your preferred choice.


Objectives/Learning Outcomes/Capability Development

Program Learning Outcomes

In this course you will develop the following program learning outcomes:

• Conceptualise and engage in research through design as part of the creative process to open the potential for new understandings, experimentation and innovation.
• Communicate your ideas and designs verbally, visually and textually through a range of media to your peers as well as professional, academic and public audiences.
• Use technology as an intrinsic part of the design process and have the ability to identify relevant techniques, skills, materials and technologies for specific designs.
• Understand and value your individual abilities and way of working as an interior designer; to initiate independent strategies together with the ability to plan and time manage projects; to develop a personal work ethic based on initiative and self-motivation.


Course Learning Outcomes

Upon successful completion of this course, you will be able to:

1. Determine and plan a unified process to communicate your idea-led design projects.
2. Work within a specialised domain of design communication.
3. Evaluate a variety of advanced contemporary communication media.
4. Compose and assess appropriate communication strategies for diverse design projects.


Overview of Learning Activities

You will participate in a range of learning activities. In-class activities will include lectures, presentations, group and individual tutorials, group discussions, peer-to-peer critiques, student presentations and studio workshops. Other activities may include excursions to exhibitions and site visits.

The range of learning activities will contribute to the building of a diversity of approaches to design practice in a number of different scenarios.


Overview of Learning Resources

You will identify the learning resources specific to your own interests in conjunction with your tutors. These may include readings, critical study of precedents, and further refinement of the communication, workshop, and other skills that you have acquired in the previous levels of the course. RMIT will provide you with resources and tools for learning in this course through our online systems.

It is advisable that you have a personal computer of an appropriate specification.
