Pre-requisite Courses and Assumed Knowledge and Capabilities

You should have satisfactorily completed the prerequisite courses GRAP2650 Professional Engagement or GRAP2456 Fashion Design Professsional Practice 4 before you commence this course.

Co-requisite

You should undertake GRAP2648 Advanced Fashion Design Studio 4 at the same time as this course as it contains areas of knowledge and skills which are implemented together in practice. These are co-requisite courses.

Note it is a condition of enrolment at RMIT that you accept responsibility for ensuring that you have completed the prerequisite/s and agree to concurrently enrol in co-requisite courses before enrolling in a course.

Course Description

Showcasing and presenting fashion ideas

This course complements Advanced Fashion Design Studio 4 and provides the framework for you to showcase your fashion body of work. It supports you in the development of appropriate dissemination and communication methodologies to enable the public presentation of your final project, and the finalisation of a professional portfolio appropriate for global distribution.

Through collaboration with creative practitioners you will facilitate an industry interface for your practice, enabling you to publicly present your work to the fashion community. Activities will relate to the dissemination of individual and collective fashion practices and will include preparation for dissemination of your major project through catwalk, exhibition, publication, film or other presentation form.

 

 


Objectives/Learning Outcomes/Capability Development

In this course you will develop the following program learning outcomes:

PLO 3 Professionally communicate design and creative propositions, processes and outcomes to address specialist and non-specialist audiences, while working with cultural differences in an appropriate manner

PLO 4 Provide design leadership to effectively plan and manage the implementation of new directions and strategies within the global fashion industry, as well as effectively collaborate with others.


Upon successful completion of this course, you will be able to:

CLO 1 Research, select and realise the most appropriate dissemination approach to showcase your fashion design practice

CLO 2 Explore and professionally articulate your fashion design concept through various communication interfaces relevant to future industry practice

CLO 3 Work collaboratively with creative practitioners in the field of fashion communication and dissemination

CLO 4 Research and select appropriate communication methodologies for your individual practice within an analytical and reflective framework


Overview of Learning Activities

In this course you will integrate and apply conceptual, critical and creative thinking that addresses methodologies for disseminating and communicating fashion. You will evolve fashion communication ideas that form imaginative and innovative design proposals, in a range of existing and new contexts, which assist you in creating an individual design portfolio.

You will evolve an ongoing fluency in articulating ideas, clear arguments and rationales that effectively present fashion design proposals and solutions to team members, clients, consultants and other design teams and industry stakeholders.

Overview of Assessment

You will be assessed on how well you meet the course’s learning outcomes and on your development against the program learning outcomes.

The varied nature of the learning activities, including critique, peer review and class discussions, demands your ongoing class participation to achieve the course objectives.  You will receive regular reviews of progress during the course and formative feedback on your academic pogress.  Assessment tasks undertaken in this course will be based on a combination of individual and group work, documentation and reflection.  Feedback will be given on all assessment tasks.
