Course Description

In this course you will explore how the field of media and communication frames, reports and interprets.

You will examine multidisciplinary communication genres such as public relations, marketing and advertising in different cultural contexts. The focus is on innovative, creative communication solutions including communication design, digital media, games and animation in corporate communication. You will explore and analyse their potential for shaping and re-imagining the corporate communication landscape, particularly the role these tools play in connecting with global audiences and online communities in the corporate environment.
 


Objectives/Learning Outcomes/Capability Development

In this course you will develop the following program learning outcomes:

  • Develop a broad range of knowledge and skills for application across media and communication industries.
  • Acquire and apply knowledge of local and international perspectives and issues about contemporary communication.
  • Work collaboratively to plan and produce communication projects appropriate to the corporate environment.
  • Undertake research into contemporary media theory and practice to explore possible industry and career directions.


Upon successful completion of this course you will be able to:

  • Critically discuss the pervading place of media and communication in everyday living, both locally and internationally.
  • Examine the global reach of corporate communication and discuss the implications for professional practice.
  • Compare and contrast the use of media and communication across cultural boundaries.
  • Identify digital communication opportunities and critically analyse their benefits and challenges.
  • Reflect on and evaluate the impact of emerging media and communication development on corporate communication.

You will be engaged in learning that involves a range of activities both face-to-face and online such as workshops, tutorials, group and class discussion, class activities and individual research.

Overview of Assessment

You will be assessed on how well you meet the course’s learning outcomes and on your development against the program learning outcomes. Assessment may include presentations, projects and may be done individually and in teams.

 

Assessment Tasks 

Assessment Task 1: Presentation, 30% CLO1, CLO2

Assessment Task 2: Essay Plan, 25% CLO1, CLO3  

Assessment Task 3: Essay, 45% CLO2, CLO3, CLO4 and CLO5
